This quotation is from a backpacker from Seattle, who is one of many other tourists coming to Berlin in order to discover the nightlife here.  As stated in the “Unispiegel 4/2011” the berlin tourism board counted more than 4 million of guest nights just between January and March 2011. The city is booming and people from all over the world are attracted – of course not only because of Berlin’s famous nightlife.

Matt Cohler, an American Investor, describes Berlin as an international city and a great place with lots of talent and lots of creative energy as well as a magnet for very talented people from all over the world. He also claims that Berlin offers many possibilities for companies to create something new, even though the city is no internationally important finance or industry centre. But maybe that is the point. People with ideas on their mind come here to start something new, because Berlin offers room for creative rave.

Let’s have a look at the numbers:

More and more people found their own enterprises in Berlin. According to the website “www.businesslocationcenter.de” there were 42,722 start-up companies in Berlin in 2010 – that number is more than 5% higher than the number of the foregone year. At the same time, the rate of business deregistration is even lower than in the years before. Business properties are relatively cheap and there are 42 business incubator and technology centres and more than 300 private and state-run research facilities and a large number of highly qualified workers in Berlin.

It seems like there are various reasons why Berlin is a good place for innovative people and business start-ups. In further researches we want to find out more about some success stories of Berlin start-ups and about the planning and management processes behind.
